In the present dashboards, assessments on the ecological and chemical status under the Water Framework Directive (WFD), as well as the conservation status of marine species and habitats under the Nature directives, are presented in a dynamic format, to allow the users to explore, use and download the data and figures in different ways.
Water Framework Directive (WFD)
Results of the 1st and 2nd River Basin Management Plans
Under Article 13 of the Water Framework Directive (Directive 2000/60/EC) Member States need to produce River Basin Management Plans (RBMPs) and report them to the European Commission, and those have to include the location and boundaries of water bodies, as well as their status.
Surface water bodies-WFD marine dashboard [full dashboard]
The dashboard presents charts and tables about 1) ecological status or potential ecological status; 2) chemical status 3) quality elements status; 4) list of river basin specific pollutants and 5) list of priority substances related to the EU transitional, coastal and territorial waters, as reported by Member States, for the 1st and 2nd cycle of the Water Framework Directive (WFD) - River Basin Management Plan (RBMP).
Surface water bodies-ecological status or potential by marine (sub)region [chart]
The dashboard shows the ecological status or potential ecological status, by area, of surface water bodies categories: transitional, coastal and territorial waters, as reported by EU Countries during the 1st and 2nd cycle of the Water Framework Directive (WFD) - River Basin Management Plan (RBMP). River Basin Districts (RBDs) were overlaid and mapped with marine subregions.
Surface water bodies-chemical status or potential by marine (sub)region [chart]
The dashboard shows the chemical status by area, of surface water bodies categories: transitional, coastal and territorial waters, as reported by EU Countries during the 1st and 2nd cycle of the Water Framework Directive (WFD) - River Basin Management Plan (RBMP). River Basin Districts (RBDs) were overlaid and mapped with marine subregions.
Surface water bodies: River basin specific pollutants in the 2nd River Basin Management Plans
The dashboard shows the River basin specific pollutants in the 2nd River Basin Management Plans of the surface water bodies categories: transitional, coastal and territorial waters, as reported by Member States during the 2nd cycle of the Water Framework Directive (WFD) - River Basin Management Plan (RBMP).
Marine species and habitats in the EU
Status, trends and distribution, 2013-2018
Under Article 17 of the Habitats Directive (92/43/EEC) EU Member States need to report to the European Commission on the conservation status, trends and distribution of the habitats referred to in Annex I and the species in Annex II, IV and V. In parallel, under Article 12 of the Birds Directive (2009/147/EC), they have to report on the population size, trends and distribution of the bird species in their territories.
Status of marine and species habitats
The chart displayes the status and trends of the EU marine species and habitats, as reported under Article 17 of the Habitats Directive (92/43/EEC) for the period 2013-2018.
Marine species and habitats in the EU: status, trends and distribution [full dashboard]
The dashboard makes available a number of figures showing the status, trends and distribution of the (non-bird) species and habitats reported for the period 2007-2012 and population distribution, trends and size of birds for the period 2008-2012 and for the period 2013-2018.
