The EU Mission “Restore our Ocean and Waters by 2030” (Ocean and Waters) aims to protect and restore the health of our ocean and waters through research and innovation, citizen engagement and blue investments. The European Environment Agency (EEA) has developed a dynamic and near real-time monitoring framework to track and assess the progress of the EU Mission activities in achieving objectives of relevant EU policies. The indicators are developed in collaboration with the Maritime Affairs and Fisheries department of the European Commission (DG MARE) and is accompanied by Policy Briefs and Monitoring Assessments.
The monitoring framework includes quantitative indicators that help track progress towards 10 targets across 3 objectives of the EU Mission Ocean and Waters. Additional information on the method and guiding principles of the monitoring framework can be found in the Policy Brief 1/2025: Monitoring of the EU Mission “Restore our Ocean and Waters by 2030” (May 2025)
