Lessons, risks, implications
Key lessons
Hydrotechnical restoration of Srebarna is successful concerning the local biophysical impacts: improved water level, decline in eutrophication trends, improved biodiversity. However the impacts at river basin level are insignificant or difficult to assess due to the scale difference.

Summary
A linking canal with a lock, constructed in 1994, enabled the artificial respiration of Srebarna Lake in the Bulgarian border with Romania. Thanks to this canal, water from the Danube can now flow into the lake every year.
